The top Indian athletes were geared up for the Nation's first-ever World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level Meet in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, on Sunday.
India put up a contingent og 90 athletes, who competed against players across 16 nations for 17 coveted titles in an amazing International showdown at the historic Kalinga Stadium.
Top Indian athletes, including Murali Sreeshankar, Sachin Yadav, Animesh Kujur, Annu Rani, and Shaili Singh, competed for gold medals and a spot in the 2025 Tokyo World Championships.
As it happened:
The experienced Indian set a new season best of 8.13m on his final attempt to pip the youngster Shahnawaz Khan and clinch the men's long jump title.
Medalists:
Murali Sreeshankar (IND) - 8.13m
Shahnawaz Khan (IND) - 8.04m
Lokesh Sathyanthan (IND) - 7.85m
Shahnawaz became just the second Indian to cross the 8m this year and also takes the lead in the field ahead of the favourite Murali Sreeshankar.
The Current Leaders at Halfway Stage:
Murali Sreeshankar (IND) - 7.95m
Lokesh Sathyanathan (IND) - 7.85m
Shahnavaz Khan (IND) - 7.67m
Animesh was trailing at the bend against South Korea's Ko Seunghwan, but then a late surge helped him to clinch the title with a good time of 20.74s.
Meanwhile, Ragul Kumar G won the bronze medal with a decent time of 21.17s.
Sri Lanka's Rumesh takes the spotlight with a massive 86.50m, followed by the young Indian Javelin thrower Shivam Lohakare, who made his second 80m+ outing of the year to win the silver medal.
The favourite, Sachin Yadav, could not find his best and finished 5th with a throw of 79.80m.
This result will surely give some good ranking points to Abdulla for the Road to Tokyo Ranking and will further solidify her berth for the World Championships.
Medalists:
Abdulla Aboobacker (IND): 16.53m
Karthik Unnikrishnan(IND): 16.42m
Gailey Venister (IND): 16.26m
Shaili clinched the women's long jump title, but it will not help her much in the Road to Tokyo Rankings, where she is currently lagging around 60th place with just 36 available spots.
Current Javelin Leaders after 5 rounds:
Rumesh Pathirage (SRI): 86.5m
Shivam Lohakare (IND): 80.73m
